The mission of the Council on Aging (COA) is to provide advocacy and support services to help Arlington elders live dignified and independent lives. The Council's primary responsibilities are to design, promote, and implement services to address the identified needs of the community's elder population and to coordinate existing services in the community. The COA works in concert with public and private agencies and providers in the area, and with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs. |

The Arlington Housing Authority provides subsidized housing for elderly, low-income families, and disabled persons. Both housing project models and subsidized apartment models are available. The Housing Authority does not provide emergency shelter. A waiting list usually exists for subsidized housing. |

The Alzheimer's Association has a wealth of resources for families facing Alzheimer's disease - information, support groups, local medical resources, news, and events. They provide a great of funding for Alzheimer's research and sponsor many fund-raising events across the country. |

Minuteman Senior Services is an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) serving Arlington, Massachusetts and surrounding communities. ASAPs operate under a state contract to coordinate and deliver a wide range of services to senior citizens in their regions. |

For seniors who live alone and cannot prepare food for themselves, Meals on Wheels can be a godsend. Friendly volunteers deliver meals and often can provide some social stimulation in an otherwise lonely day. Recipients must be at least 60 years old. Services can be for a short period, such as recovery from surgery, or for an indefinite period. Meals are federally subsidized under the Older Americans Act. |
