Concord's COA hired a new director, Ginger Quarles, in the summer of 2011. The Concord COA is very active, sponsoring activities and events from its home in the Harvey Wheeler Senior Center. The YES Club for Young Energetic Seniors offers a range of activities in the community and out of town, and the Friendly Visitor Program helps to prevent isolation from seniors who find it difficult to get out of the house. At the center, there are a wide range of services (health services, tax prep assistance, heating fuel assistance, computer classes, etc) and interest groups. |

Harvey Wheeler hosts many social and community service activities. The center was recently renovated and shares space with the Concord Children's Center. Health services like blood pressure clinics, social events like movies and meals, enrichment events like interest groups and lectures all take place here. |

Concord's COA offers a van that operates Monday through Friday, except for holidays between 8:40 AM and 4.00 PM. It is best not to schedule late afternoon appointments, to avoid schedule problems. Within town limits, a $2 donation for a van ride is requested. A wheelchair accessible van is also available. |

Concord, MA residents have been going to Emerson Hospital since it was founded in 1911. It is not named for Concord's most famous Emerson (Ralph Waldo), but for his nephew Charles. Emerson Hospital is affiliated with many of the best medical facilities in the country, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Lahey Clinic, Children's Hospital Boston, and Tufts Medical Center. Emerson has nearly 200 beds and over 300 activie physicians. |

The Groves offers independent living in Lincoln. It is a joint ventures between the Masonic Health System and Deaconess Abundant Life Communities that opened in 2010. The community is also served by Overlook Visiting Nurses Association, which has a full-service branch on the campus. |

The Alzheimer's Association has a wealth of resources for families facing Alzheimer's disease - information, support groups, local medical resources, news, and events. They provide a great of funding for Alzheimer's research and sponsor many fund-raising events across the country. |

Minuteman Senior Services is an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) serving Concord, Massachusetts and surrounding communities. ASAPs operate under a state contract to coordinate and deliver a wide range of services to senior citizens in their regions. |

For seniors who live alone and cannot prepare food for themselves, Meals on Wheels can be a godsend. Friendly volunteers deliver meals and often can provide some social stimulation in an otherwise lonely day. Recipients must be at least 60 years old. Services can be for a short period, such as recovery from surgery, or for an indefinite period. Meals are federally subsidized under the Older Americans Act. |
